Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore. Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone. |

사람이 黑暗(흑암)을 破(파)하고 끝까지 窮究(궁구)하여 ㄱ음예와
ㄴ幽暗(유암) 中(중)의 鑛石(광석)을 求(구)하되
Man puts an end to the darkness; he searches the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness. He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death. |

사람 사는 곳에서 멀리 떠나 구멍을 깊이 뚫고 발이 땅에 닿지 않게 달려 내리니 멀리 사람과 隔絶(격절)되고 흔들흔들 하느니라
Far from where people dwell he cuts a shaft, in places forgotten by the foot of man; far from men he dangles and sways. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men. |

sapphires come from its rocks, and its dust contains nuggets of gold. The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold. |

그 길은 솔개도 알지 못하고 매의 눈도 보지 못하며
No bird of prey knows that hidden path, no falcon's eye has seen it. There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen: |

ㅁ威嚴(위엄)스러운 짐승도 밟지 못하였고 ㅂ사나운 獅子(사자)도 그리로 지나가지 못하였느니라
Proud beasts do not set foot on it, and no lion prowls there. The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it. |

사람이 ㅅ굳은 바위에 손을 대고 山(산)을 뿌리까지 무너뜨리며
Man's hand assaults the flinty rock and lays bare the roots of the mountains. He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots. |

돌 가운데로 도랑을 파서 各種(각종) 寶物(보물)을 눈으로 發見(발견)하고
He tunnels through the rock; his eyes see all its treasures. He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. |

시냇물을 막아 스미지 않게 하고 감취었던 것을 밝은 데로 내느니라
He searches the sources of the rivers and brings hidden things to light. He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light. |

● ㅇ그러나 智慧(지혜)는 어디서 얻으며 明哲(명철)의 곳은 어디인고
But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? |

그 값을 사람이 알지 못하나니 ㅈ사람 사는 땅에서 찾을 수 없구나

ㅋ精金(정금)으로도 바꿀 수 없고 銀(은)을 달아도 그 값을 當(당)치 못하리니
It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed in silver. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. |

ㅌ오빌의 ㅍ金(금)이나 貴(귀)한 ㅎ水瑪瑙(수마노)나 藍寶石(남보석)으로도 그 값을 當(당)치 못하겠고
It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphires. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. |

黃金(황금)이나 琉璃(유리)라도 比較(비교)할 수 없고 精金(정금) 粧飾(장식)으로도 바꿀 수 없으며
Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it, nor can it be had for jewels of gold. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. |

ㅏ珊瑚(산호)나 水晶(수정)으로도 말할 수 없나니 智慧(지혜)의 값은 ㅑ紅寶石(홍보석)보다 貴(귀)하구나
Coral and jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. |

구스의 ㅓ黃玉(황옥)으로도 比較(비교)할 수 없고 純金(순금)으로도 그 값을 測量(측량)하지 못하리니
The topaz of Cush cannot compare with it; it cannot be bought with pure gold. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. |

그런즉 智慧(지혜)는 어디서 오며 明哲(명철)의 곳은 어디인고
Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? |

ㅕ모든 生物(생물)의 눈에 숨겨졌고 空中(공중)의 새에게 가리워졌으며
It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds of the air. Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. |

ㅗ滅亡(멸망)과 死亡(사망)도 이르기를 우리가 귀로 그 所聞(소문)은 들었다 하느니라

또 사람에게 이르시기를 이主(주)를 敬畏(경외)함이 곧 智慧(지혜)요 ㅐ惡(악)을 떠남이 明哲(명철)이라 하셨느니라
And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.'" And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. |
