Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan. And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. |

야곱의 略傳(약전)이 이러하니라 요셉이 十七歲(십칠세)의 少年(소년)으로서 그 兄弟(형제)와 함께 羊(양)을 칠 때에 그 아비의 妾(첩) 빌하와
실바의 아들들로 더불어 함께 하였더니 그가 ㅅ그들의 過失(과실)을 아비에게 告(고)하더라
This is the account of Jacob. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them. These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. |

ㅇ요셉은 老年(노년)에 얻은 아들이므로 이스라엘이 여러 아들보다 그를 깊이 사랑하여 爲(위)하여 ㅈ彩色(채색)옷을 지었더니
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. |

그 兄(형)들이 아비가 兄弟(형제)들보다 그를 사랑함을 보고 그를 미워하여 그에게 言辭(언사)가 不平(불평)하였더라
When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. |

● 요셉이 꿈을 꾸고 自己(자기) 兄(형)들에게 告(고)하매 그들이 그를 더욱 미워하였더라
Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. |

요셉이 그들에게 이르되 請(청)컨대 나의 꾼 꿈을 들으시오
He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: |

우리가 밭에서 穀食(곡식)을 묶더니 ㅊ내 단은 일어서고 當身(당신)들의 단은 내 단을 둘러서서 ㅋ절하더이다
We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it." For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. |

그 兄(형)들이 그에게 이르되 네가 참으로 우리의 王(왕)이 되겠느냐 참으로 우리를 다스리게 되겠느냐 하고 그 꿈과 그 말을 因(인)하여 그를 더욱 미워하더니
His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. |

요셉이 다시 꿈을 꾸고 그 兄(형)들에게 告(고)하여 가로되 내가 또 꿈을 꾼즉 해와 달과 열 한 별이 내게 절하더이다 하니라
Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. "Listen," he said, "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. |

그가 그 꿈으로 父兄(부형)에게 告(고)하매 아비가 그를 꾸짖고 그에게 이르되 너의 꾼 꿈이 무엇이냐 ㅌ나와 네 母(모)와 네 兄弟(형제)들이 참으로 가서 땅에
ㅍ엎드려 네게 절하겠느냐
When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, "What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?" And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? |

ㅎ그 兄(형)들은 猜忌(시기)하되 그 ㅏ아비는 그 말을 마음에 두었더라
His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind. And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. |

● 그 兄(형)들이 ㅑ세겜에 가서 아비의 羊(양)떼를 칠 때에

Now his brothers had gone to graze their father's flocks near Shechem, And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem. |

이스라엘이 요셉에게 이르되 네 兄(형)들이 세겜에서 羊(양)을 치지 아니하느냐 너를 그들에게로 보내리라 요셉이 아비에게 對答(대답)하되 내가 그리하겠나이다
and Israel said to Joseph, "As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem. Come, I am going to send you to them." "Very well," he replied. And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. |

이스라엘이 그에게 이르되 가서 네 兄(형)들과 羊(양)떼가 다 잘 있는 與否(여부)를 보고 돌아와 내게 告(고)하라 하고 그를 ㅓ헤브론 골짜기에서 보내매 이에 세겜으로 가니라
So he said to him, "Go and see if all is well with your brothers and with the flocks, and bring word back to me." Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron. When Joseph arrived at Shechem, And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. |

어떤 사람이 그를 만난즉 그가 들에서 彷徨(방황)하는지라 그 사람이 그에게 물어 가로되 네가 무엇을 찾느냐
a man found him wandering around in the fields and asked him, "What are you looking for?" And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? |

그가 가로되 내가 나의 兄(형)들을 찾으오니 請(청)컨대 그들의 羊(양)치는 곳을 내게 가르치소서
He replied, "I'm looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are grazing their flocks?" And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks. |

그 사람이 가로되 그들이 여기서 떠났느니라 내가 그들의 말을 들으니 ㅕ도단으로 가자 하더라 요셉이 그 兄(형)들의 뒤를 따라 가서 도단에서 그들을 만나니라

They have moved on from here, the man answered. "I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan. |

● 요셉이 그들에게 가까이 오기 前(전)에 그들이 요셉을 멀리서 보고 ㅗ죽이기를 꾀하여
But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. |

서로 이르되 꿈 꾸는 者(자)가 오는도다
Here comes that dreamer! they said to each other. And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. |
20 |
자, 그를 ㅛ죽여 한 구덩이에 던지고 우리가 말하기를 惡(악)한 짐승이 그를 잡아먹었다 하자 그 꿈이 어떻게 되는 것을 우리가 볼 것이니라 하는지라

창37:26
Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we'll see what comes of his dreams. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. |

ㅜ르우벤이 듣고 요셉을 그들의 손에서 救援(구원)하려 하여 가로되 우리가 그 生命(생명)은 傷(상)하지 말자

When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. "Let's not take his life," he said. And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. |

르우벤이 또 그들에게 이르되 피를 흘리지 말라, 그를 曠野(광야) 그 구덩이에 던지고 손을 그에게 대지 말라 하니 ㅠ이는 그가 요셉을 그들의 손에서 救援(구원)하여 그 아비에게로 돌리려
함이었더라
Don't shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the desert, but don't lay a hand on him. Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father. And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. |

So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe--the richly ornamented robe he was wearing-- And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; |

그를 잡아 이구덩이에 던지니 그 구덩이는 빈 것이라 그 속에 물이 없었더라
and they took him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it. And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. |

● 그들이 앉아 음식을 먹다가 눈을 들어 ㅐ본즉 한떼 ㄱ이스마엘 族屬(족속)이 길르앗에서 오는데 그 약대들에 ㄴ香品(향품)과 乳香(유향)과
沒藥(몰약)을 싣고 애굽으로 내려가는지라
As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt. And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. |

유다가 自己(자기) 兄弟(형제)에게 이르되 우리가 우리 ㄷ同生(동생)을 죽이고 그의 피를 隱匿(은익)한들

Judah said to his brothers, "What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? |

자, 그를 이스마엘 사람에게 팔고 우리 ㄹ손을 그에게 대지 말자 그는 우리의 同生(동생)이요 우리의 骨肉(골육)이니라 하매 兄弟(형제)들이 聽從(청종)하였더라

Come, let's sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood." His brothers agreed. Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. |

때에 ㅁ미디안 사람 商賈(상고)들이 지나는지라 그들이 요셉을 구덩이에서 끌어 올리고 ㅂ銀(은) 二十個(이십개)에 그를 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔매 그
商賈(상고)들이 요셉을 데리고 애굽으로 갔더라
So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. |

● 르우벤이 돌아와서 구덩이에 이르러 본즉 거기 요셉이 없는지라 ㅅ옷을 찢고
When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes. And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes. |
30 |
아우들에게로 와서 가로되 ㅇ아이가 없도다 나는 나는 어디로 갈까
He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy isn't there! Where can I turn now?" And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? |
31 |
그들이 ㅈ요셉의 옷을 取(취)하고 수염소를 죽여 그 옷을 피에 적시고

Then they got Joseph's robe, slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood. And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; |
32 |
그 彩色(채색)옷을 보내어 그 아비에게로 가져다가 이르기를 우리가 이것을 얻었으니 아버지의 아들의 옷인가 아닌가 보소서 하매
They took the ornamented robe back to their father and said, "We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son's robe." And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. |
33 |
아비가 그것을 알아보고 가로되 내 아들의 옷이라 ㅊ惡(악)한 짐승이 그를 먹었도다 요셉이 丁寧(정녕) 찢겼도다 하고
He recognized it and said, "It is my son's robe! Some ferocious animal has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces." And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. |
34 |
自己(자기) 옷을 찢고 굵은 베로 허리를 묶고 오래도록 그 아들을 爲(위)하여 哀痛(애통)하니
Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days. And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. |
35 |
그 ㅋ모든 子女(자녀)가 慰勞(위로)하되 그가 그 慰勞(위로)를 받지 아니하여 가로되 내가 슬퍼하며 ㅌ陰府(음부)에 ㅍ내려 아들에게로 가리라 하고 그 아비가 그를 爲(위)하여 울었더라
All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. "No," he said, "in mourning will I go down to the grave to my son." So his father wept for him. And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. |
36 |
ㅎ미디안 사람이 애굽에서 바로의 臣下(신하) 侍衛隊長(시위대장) ㅏ보디발에게 요셉을 팔았더라
Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard. And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard. |
