Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior. His father was Gilead; his mother was a prostitute. Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah. |

길르앗의 아내도 아들들을 낳았더라 아내의 아들들이 자라매 입다를 쫓아내며 그에게 이르되 너는 다른 女人(여인)의 子息(자식)이니 우리 아버지 집 基業(기업)을 잇지 못하리라 한지라
Gilead's wife also bore him sons, and when they were grown up, they drove Jephthah away. "You are not going to get any inheritance in our family," they said, "because you are the son of another woman." And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman. |

이에 입다가 그 兄弟(형제)를 避(피)하여 ㄱ돕 땅에 居(거)하매 ㄴ雜類(잡류)가 그에게로 모여와서 그와 함께 出入(출입)하였더라
So Jephthah fled from his brothers and settled in the land of Tob, where a group of adventurers gathered around him and followed him. Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him. |

● 얼마 後(후)에 암몬 子孫(자손)이 이스라엘을 치려 하니라
Some time later, when the Ammonites made war on Israel, And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. |

암몬 子孫(자손)이 이스라엘을 치려 할 때에 길르앗 長老(장로)들이 입다를 데려 오려고 돕 땅에 가서
the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob. And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob: |

입다에게 이르되 우리가 암몬 子孫(자손)과 싸우려 하나니 當身(당신)은 와서 우리의 長官(장관)이 되라
Come, they said, "be our commander, so we can fight the Ammonites." And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. |

입다가 길르앗 長老(장로)들에게 이르되 너희가 前(전)에 나를 미워하여 내 아버지 집에서 쫓아내지 아니하였느냐 이제 너희가 患難(환난)을 當(당)하였다고 어찌하여 내게 왔느냐
Jephthah said to them, "Didn't you hate me and drive me from my father's house? Why do you come to me now, when you're in trouble?" And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress? |

길르앗 長老(장로)들이 對答(대답)하되 이제 우리가 當身(당신)을 찾아온 것은 우리와 함께 가서 암몬 子孫(자손)과 싸우려 하게 함이니 그리하면 ㄷ우리 길르앗 모든 居民(거민)의 머리가 되리라

The elders of Gilead said to him, "Nevertheless, we are turning to you now; come with us to fight the Ammonites, and you will be our head over all who live in Gilead." And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. |

입다가 길르앗 長老(장로)들에게 이르되 너희가 나를 데리고 本鄕(본향)으로 돌아가서 암몬 子孫(자손)과 싸우게 할 때에 萬一(만일) 여호와께서 그들을 네게 붙이시면 내가 果然(과연) 너희 머리가 되겠느냐
Jephthah answered, "Suppose you take me back to fight the Ammonites and the LORD gives them to me--will I really be your head?" And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head? |

길르앗 長老(장로)들이 입다에게 이르되 ㄹ여호와는 우리 사이의 證人(증인)이시니 當身(당신)의 말대로 우리가 반드시 行(행)하리이다

The elders of Gilead replied, "The LORD is our witness; we will certainly do as you say." And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words. |

이에 입다가 길르앗 長老(장로)들과 함께 가니 百姓(백성)이 그로 ㅁ自己(자기)들의 머리와 長官(장관)을 삼은지라 입다가 ㅂ미스바에서 自己(자기)의 말을 다 ㅅ여호와 앞에 告(고)하니라
So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them. And he repeated all his words before the LORD in Mizpah. Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh. |

● 입다가 암몬 子孫(자손)의 王(왕)에게 使者(사자)를 보내어 이르되 네가 나와 무슨 相關(상관)이 있기에 내 땅을 치러 내게 왔느냐
Then Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king with the question: "What do you have against us that you have attacked our country?" And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land? |

암몬 子孫(자손)의 王(왕)이 입다의 使者(사자)에게 對答(대답)하되 ㅇ이스라엘이 애굽에서 올라올 때에 ㅈ아르논에서부터 ㅊ얍복과 요단까지 내 땅을 取(취)한 緣故(연고)니 이제 그것을 和平(화평)히 다시 돌리라
The king of the Ammonites answered Jephthah's messengers, "When Israel came up out of Egypt, they took away my land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, all the way to the Jordan. Now give it back peaceably." And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably. |

입다가 암몬 子孫(자손)의 王(왕)에게 다시 使者(사자)를 보내어
Jephthah sent back messengers to the Ammonite king, And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon: |
15 |
그에게 이르되 입다가 말하노라 ㅋ이스라엘이 모압 땅과 암몬 子孫(자손)의 땅을 取(취)하지 아니하였느니라
saying: "This is what Jephthah says: Israel did not take the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites. And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon: |

이스라엘이 애굽에서 올라올 때에 曠野(광야)로 行(행)하여 ㅌ紅海(홍해)에 이르고 ㅍ가데스에 이르러서는
But when they came up out of Egypt, Israel went through the desert to the Red Sea and on to Kadesh. But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh; |
17 |
이스라엘이 ㅎ使者(사자)를 에돔 王(왕)에게 보내어 이르기를 請(청)컨대 나를 容納(용납)하여 네 땅 가운데로 지나게 하라 하였으나 ㅏ에돔 王(왕)이 이를 듣지 아니하였고 또 그같이 사람을 모압 王(왕)에게 보내었으나 그도 許諾(허락)지 아니함으로 이스라엘이 ㅑ가데스에 留(유)하였더니
Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, 'Give us permission to go through your country,' but the king of Edom would not listen. They sent also to the king of Moab, and he refused. So Israel stayed at Kadesh. Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh. |

그 後(후)에 曠野(광야)를 지나 ㅓ에돔 땅과 모압 땅을 둘러 行(행)하여 ㅕ모압 땅 東便(동편)에서부터 와서 ㅗ아르논 저편에 진 쳤고 아르논은 모압 境界(경계)이므로 그 境內(경내)에는 들어가지 아니하였으며
Next they traveled through the desert, skirted the lands of Edom and Moab, passed along the eastern side of the country of Moab, and camped on the other side of the Arnon. They did not enter the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was its border. Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab. |

ㅛ이스라엘이 헤스본 王(왕) 곧 아모리 王(왕) 시혼에게 使者(사자)를 보내어 그에게 이르되 請(청)컨대 우리를 容納(용납)하여 當身(당신)의 땅으로 지나 우리 곳에 이르게 하라 하였으나
Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, and said to him, 'Let us pass through your country to our own place.' And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place. |

시혼이 이스라엘을 믿지 아니하여 그 地境(지경)으로 지나지 못하게 할뿐 아니라 그 모든 百姓(백성)을 모아 야하스에 陣(진) 치고 이스라엘을 치므로
Sihon, however, did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. He mustered all his men and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel. But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel. |

이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 시혼과 그 모든 百姓(백성)을 이스라엘의 손에 붙이시매 이스라엘이 쳐서 그 땅 居民(거민) 아모리 사람의 온 땅을 取(취)하되
Then the LORD, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his men into Israel's hands, and they defeated them. Israel took over all the land of the Amorites who lived in that country, And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country. |
22 |
아르논에서부터 얍복까지와 曠野(광야)에서부터 요단까지 아모리 사람의 온 地境(지경)을 取(취)하였느니라
capturing all of it from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the desert to the Jordan. And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan. |

이스라엘 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 아모리 사람을 自己(자기) 百姓(백성) 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓아내셨거늘 네가 그 땅을 얻고자 하는 것이 可(가)하냐
Now since the LORD, the God of Israel, has driven the Amorites out before his people Israel, what right have you to take it over? So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it? |
24 |
네 神(신) ㅜ그모스가 네게 주어 얻게 한 땅을 네가 얻지 않겠느냐 ㅠ우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리 앞에서 어떤 사람이든지 쫓아내시면 그 땅을 우리가 얻으리라
Will you not take what your god Chemosh gives you? Likewise, whatever the LORD our God has given us, we will possess. Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess. |
25 |
이제 네가 모압 王(왕) 십볼의 아들 으발락보다 나은 것이 있느냐 그가 이스라엘로 더불어 다툰 일이 있었느냐 싸운 일이 있었느냐
Are you better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever quarrel with Israel or fight with them? And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them, |
26 |
이스라엘이 이헤스본과 그 鄕村(향촌)들과 ㅐ아로엘과 그 鄕村(향촌)들과 아르논 沿岸(연안)에 있는 모든 城邑(성읍)에 居(거)한지 三百年(삼백년)이어늘 그동안 너희가 어찌하여 도로 찾지 아니하였느냐
For three hundred years Israel occupied Heshbon, Aroer, the surrounding settlements and all the towns along the Arnon. Why didn't you retake them during that time? While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time? |

내가 네게 罪(죄)를 짓지 아니하였거늘 네가 나를 쳐서 내게 惡(악)을 行(행)하고자 하는도다 願(원)컨대 ㄱ審判(심판)하시는 여호와는 오늘날 이스라엘 子孫(자손)과 암몬 子孫(자손)의 사이에 判決(판결)하시옵소서 하나
I have not wronged you, but you are doing me wrong by waging war against me. Let the LORD, the Judge, decide the dispute this day between the Israelites and the Ammonites." Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon. |

암몬 子孫(자손)의 王(왕)이 입다의 보내어 말한 것을 듣지 아니하였더라
The king of Ammon, however, paid no attention to the message Jephthah sent him. Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him. |

● ㄴ이에 여호와의 神(신)이 입다에게 臨(임)하시니 입다가 길르앗과 므낫세를 지나서 길르앗 미스베에 이르고 길르앗 미스베에서부터 암몬 子孫(자손)들에게로 나아갈 때에

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah. He crossed Gilead and Manasseh, passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon. |

그가 여호와께 ㄷ誓願(서원)하여 가로되 主(주)께서 果然(과연) 암몬 子孫(자손)을 내게 붙이시면
And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD: "If you give the Ammonites into my hands, And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands, |

내가 암몬 子孫(자손)에게서 平安(평안)히 돌아올 때에 누구든지 내 집 門(문)에서 나와서 ㄹ나를 迎接(영접)하는 그는 여호와께 돌릴 것이니 내가 그를 ㅁ燔祭(번제)로 드리겠나이다 하니라
whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the LORD'S, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering." Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering. |
32 |
이에 입다가 암몬 子孫(자손)에게 이르러 그들과 싸우더니 여호와께서 그들을 그 손에 붙이시매
Then Jephthah went over to fight the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into his hands. So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands. |
33 |
아로엘에서부터 ㅂ민닛에 이르기까지 二十(이십) 城邑(성읍)을 치고 또 아벨 그라밈까지 크게 屠戮(도륙)하니 이에 암몬 子孫(자손)이 이스라엘 子孫(자손) 앞에 降服(항복)하였더라

He devastated twenty towns from Aroer to the vicinity of Minnith, as far as Abel Keramim. Thus Israel subdued Ammon. And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. |

● 입다가 ㅅ미스바에 돌아와 自己(자기) 집에 이를 때에 그 딸이 ㅇ小鼓(소고)를 잡고 춤추며 나와서 迎接(영접)하니 그의 無男獨女(무남독녀)라
When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of tambourines! She was an only child. Except for her he had neither son nor daughter. And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter. |

입다가 이를 보고 ㅈ自己(자기) 옷을 찢으며 가로되 슬프다 내 딸이여 너는 나로 하여금 慘澹(참담)케 하는 者(자)요 너는 나를 괴롭게 하는 者(자) 中(중)의 하나이로다 내가 여호와를 向(향)하여 입을 열었으니 ㅊ能(능)히 돌이키지 못하리로다
When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried, "Oh! My daughter! You have made me miserable and wretched, because I have made a vow to the LORD that I cannot break." And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back. |
36 |
딸이 그에게 이르되 나의 아버지여 아버지께서 여호와를 向(향)하여 입을 여셨으니 아버지 입에서 낸 말씀대로 내게 行(행)하소서 이는 여호와께서 아버지를 爲(위)하여 아버지의 對敵(대적) 암몬 子孫(자손)에게 怨讐(원수)를 갚으셨음이니이다
My father, she replied, "you have given your word to the LORD. Do to me just as you promised, now that the LORD has avenged you of your enemies, the Ammonites. And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon. |
37 |
아비에게 또 이르되 이 일만 내게 許諾(허락)하사 나를 두 달만 容納(용납)하소서 내가 나의 동무들과 함께 山(산)에 올라가서 나의 處女(처녀)로 죽음을 因(인)하여 哀哭(애곡)하겠나이다
But grant me this one request," she said. "Give me two months to roam the hills and weep with my friends, because I will never marry." And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows. |

이르되 가라 하고 두달 爲限(위한)하고 보내니 그가 동무들과 함께 가서 山(산) 위에서 處女(처녀)로 죽음을 因(인)하여 哀哭(애곡)하고
You may go, he said. And he let her go for two months. She and the girls went into the hills and wept because she would never marry. And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains. |

두달만에 그 아비에게로 돌아온지라 ㅋ아비가 그 誓願(서원)한 대로 딸에게 行(행)하니 딸이 男子(남자)를 알지 못하고 죽으니라 이로부터 이스라엘 가운데 規例(규례)가 되어

From this comes the Israelite custom And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. 이스라엘 女子(여자)들이 해마다 가서 길르앗 사람 입다의 딸을 爲(위)하여 나흘씩 哀哭(애곡)하더라
that each year the young women of Israel go out for four days to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite. That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year. |
