1 아사의 아들 여호사밧이 代身(대신)하여 王(왕)이 되어 스스로 强(강)하게 하여 이스라엘을 防備(방비)하되

Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against Israel.

And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 유다 모든 堅固(견고)한 城邑(성읍)에 軍隊(군대)를 駐屯(주둔)하고 또 유다 땅과 그 아비 아사의 取(취)한바 에브라임 城邑(성읍)들에 營門(영문)을 두었더라

He stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.

And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

3 여호와께서 여호사밧과 함께 하셨으니 이는 저가 그 祖上(조상) 다윗의 처음 길로 行(행)하여 바알들에게 求(구)하지 아니하고

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals

And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

4 오직 그 父親(부친)의 하나님께 求(구)하며 그 誡命(계명)을 行(행)하고 이스라엘의 行爲(행위)를 좇지 아니하였음이라

but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.

But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

5 그러므로 여호와께서 나라를 그 손에서 堅固(견고)하게 하시매 유다 무리가 여호사밧에게 禮物(예물)을 드렸으므로 저가 富貴(부귀)와 榮光(영광)이 極(극)하였더라

The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.

Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

6 저가 全心(전심)으로 여호와의 道(도)를 行(행)하여 山堂(산당)과 아세라 木像(목상)들도 유다에서 除(제)하였더라

His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.

And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

7 ● 저가 位(위)에 있은지 三年(삼년)에 그 方伯(방백) 벤하일과 오바댜와 스가랴와 느다넬과 미가야를 보내어 유다 여러 城邑(성읍)에 가서 가르치게 하고

In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.

Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

8 또 저희와 함께 레위 사람 스마야와 느다냐와 스바댜와 아사헬과 스미라못과 여호나단과 아도니야와 도비야와 도바도니야 等(등) 레위 사람을 보내고 또 저희와 함께 祭司長(제사장) 엘리사마와 여호람을 보내었더니

With them were certain Levites--Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah--and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.

9 저희가 여호와의 律法冊(율법책)을 가지고 유다에서 가르치되 그 모든 城邑(성읍)으로 巡行(순행)하며 人民(인민)을 가르쳤더라

They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.

And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

10 여호와께서 유다 四面(사면) 列國(열국)에 두려움을 주사 여호사밧과 싸우지 못하게 하시매

The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.

And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11 블레셋 中(중)에서는 여호사밧에게 禮物(예물)을 드리며 銀(은)으로 貢(공)을 바쳤고 아라비아 사람도 짐승떼 곧 수羊(양) 七千(칠천) 七百(칠백)과 수염소 七千(칠천) 七百(칠백)을 드렸더라

Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats.

Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

12 여호사밧이 漸漸(점점) 强大(강대)하여 유다에 堅固(견고)한 寨(채)國庫城(국고성)을 建築(건축)하고

Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah

And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.

13 유다 各(각) 城(성)에 役事(역사)를 많이 하고 또 예루살렘에 크게 勇猛(용맹)한 軍士(군사)를 두었으니

and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.

14 軍士(군사)의 數爻(수효)가 그 族屬(족속)대로 이러하니라 유다에 屬(속)한 千夫長(천부장) 中(중)에는 아드나가 으뜸이 되어 큰 勇士(용사) 三十萬(삼십만)을 거느렸고

Their enrollment by families was as follows: From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;

And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.

15 그 다음은 長官(장관) 여호하난이니 二十八萬(이십팔만)을 거느렸고

next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;

And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.

16 그 다음은 시그리의 아들 아마시야니 저는 自己(자기)를 여호와께 즐거이 드린 者(자)라 큰 勇士(용사) 二十萬(이십만)을 거느렸고

next, Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service of the LORD, with 200,000.

And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

17 베냐민에 屬(속)한 者(자) 中(중)에 큰 勇士(용사) 엘리아다는 활과 防牌(방패)를 잡은 者(자) 二十萬(이십만)을 거느렸고

From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;

And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

18 그 다음은 여호사밧이라 싸움을 豫備(예비)한 者(자) 十八萬(십팔만)을 거느렸으니

next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.

And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.

19 이는 다 王(왕)을 섬기는 者(자)요 이 外(외)에 또 온 유다 堅固(견고)한 城(성)에 王(왕)이 軍士(군사)를 두었더라

These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
